View from the Star Ferry
We enjoyed an interesting, but extremely hot, day in Hong Kong! Hong Kong is a huge area with many sightseeing opportunities.
Our main mode of transportation for the day was the train (similar to light rail). It was a very nice and fast way to get around the city. We couldn't believe how clean it was.
The first adventure of the day was taking a ride on the Star Ferry that crosses the harbor. Even though it is a very short trip (takes about 10 minutes), it gives you a beautiful view of the city skyline. The price of about 70 cents per person, round-trip was a nice bonus.
Once we returned to the pier, we set off for the Victoria Peak Tram. The tram takes you up to the top of the peak which gives you a beautiful view of the whole area. Also at the top, there are places to shop and a bunch of restaurants. We decided to stick with something we knew and ate at Bubba Gump's.
After we descended from the peak, we headed back to the train station. Our final attraction of the day was the Monastery of 10,000 Buddhas. It is beautifully designed in the traditional Chinese architecture. There are actually over 13,000 small and large buddha statues that line the walls and rooms. This was a nice example of true Chinese culture.
We then began our way back to the hotel. At the final train stop, we spent some time at the outlet mall. It was similar to some of the outlets near home, but with a larger variety of electronics. At the outlet mall we ate supper which, again, was pretty normal. The place was called The Spaghetti House.
Tomorrow we leave Hong Kong, via train, and head to Guangzhou. It will be an interesting way to spend our 12th Anniversary and the last day before we finally get meet Dexter.
Wonderful to be able to follow your journey.
